Equity Mine Road

The Equity Mine Road is a well maintained road that runs southeast of Houston for about 40 kms. This road accesses some high elevation timbered areas and offers excellent recreational opportunities for those who want to climb a quick peak, see some mountain goats, go snowshoe hiking or skiing.

The new proposed oil pipeline running from Alberta to the BC Coast has a proposed route that would take it right beside Klo Mountain and some excellent Mountain Goat habitat.

Houston Palisades

This spectacular cliff feature is visible from the town of Houston but few people take the time to hike to the top of this spectacular feature.

Klo mountain

Klo mountain is only two kilometeres from the road and in an easy climb for any average fit person. Since the road where you park is quite high in elevation there is no need to gain much elevation to reach the peak. This Mountain offers some excellent views of both the valley and of distant peaks. This is an ideal destination for those on skis or snowshoes and snowboarders who are skilled at tree boarding will find a lot of opportunity! The easiest route to the peak is via a series of wet meadows and therefore is not a good summer hike unless you are skilled at routefinding through timber.

Dungate Meadows

These meadows follow the equity mine road from the Husky Forest Service road all the way to the bridge over Klo Creek. There are many meadow away from the road as well. This is a popular area for snowmobiles but offers a lot of area to exlpore for someone looking to go skiing or snowshoeing.
